Government launches strategic plan for Universal Service Fund

Minister of Information and Digitization Gospel Kazako has urged people behind Universal Service Fund (USF) to use the resources for the benefit of Malawians.

Kazako says if used correctly, USF can help the country develop easily.

The minister was speaking during the launch of a five-year strategic plan for the Universal Service Fund that was launched Tuesday evening.

“The fund will ensure that many Malawians have equal opportunities to access communication services,” Kazako

He wondered why USF has been idle in the past despite having resources.

MACRA Director General Daud Suleiman said the plan is vital for the country to move forward in terms of communication services for the five years to ensure that hard-to-reach areas are covered and that communication gaps are addressed.

The strategic plan has been launched under the theme “to facilitate provisions and access of ICT Services to bridge the digital device”

USF was established in 2018 under the communications act

Last year Malawi government launched free Wi-Fi connectivity in public places namely schools, markets, hospitals, libraries, and airports, which will expedite easy communication among people of Malawi.
