Islamic Relief Malawi Distributes Education Materials to Cyclone Hit Schools
Islamic Relief Malawi has started distributing learning and teaching materials in primary school which were affected by Cyclone Idai in Blantyre and Chikwawa districts
Speaking to Radio Islam Islamic Relief Malawi Country Representative Sherifa Mia said they are expected to reach out to 29 primary Schools in those two districts targeting 22,000 pupils in the whole project
Mia said this initiative came after assessing the loss and damages caused by cyclone Idai as many schools lost different materials
“The donation will help to reduce some of the challenges teachers and pupils are currently facing,” said Mia
Speaking after receiving the donation PEA for Chilomoni Zone Jean Kambewa said it was timely arranged as the schools in her zone are lacking learning and teaching materials
Kambewa says the materials will help to improve standards of education in her area as Lumbila and Likhubula Primary schools are among the beneficiaries
“Lack of materials is a major challenge in most of the schools in Chilomoni Zone as 10 pupils mostly share one book,” Kambewa said
Speaking after receiving the donation Agness Gamoti, Deputy Head Teacher for Lumbila Primary school said the material will help to reduce some of the challenges at her school
The donation comprises pupils’ books, teachers guide, chalk, duster and exercise books just to mention a few
Some of the schools that have already benefited from the project in Blantyre are Lumbira, Likhubula, Chisombezi, Naizi and Mzamba primary schools
