MEC Formulates Chiefs’ Electoral Code of Conduct

Chiefs have been urged to practice electoral code of conduct that has been presented to them.

This has been said during a National chiefs’ conference on elections in Lilongwe.

Speaking at the conference Malawi Electoral Commission chairperson Justice Dr Jane Ansa said “the code guides chiefs on what to do during elections period.

In his remarks Richard Cox chief technical advisor on elections of UNDP said chiefs should allow all political parties to conduct rallies.

“Traditional leaders should encourage women to participate in 2019 tripartite elections,” Cox said

Commenting on the matter TA Katuli of Mangochi welcomed the code saying “it will bring peace in the country as political differences will solved using it.”

The conference has been held under the theme: consolidating Malawi’s Democracy through the Ballot.
