RBM Appeals For Fight Against Counterfeit Currency & Illegal Forex Externalization.

Reserve Bank of Malawi RBM has urged its stakeholders to work hand in hand towards ending counterfeit currency and illegal forex externalization.

This was said during a daylong workshop in Blantyre of prosecutors on illegal forex externalization and counterfeit currency.

Speaking during the workshop Agnes Sentara manager of legal services at Reserve bank of Malawi said prosecutors play a crucial role in ending the vice.

“The country is losing a lot of money in reproducing currency saying in 2015 alone government spent about 9 billion kwacha while in 2017 over 10.7 million kwacha,” Sentara said

She stressed that prosecutors should ensure that people who willfully damage bank notes are brought to book.

In his remarks, senior Assistant of Police Director response for prosecution Napier Thomason Chafika, said the officers will use the knowledge gained during the workshop and share with their colleagues.

Chafika said “we will not tolerate individuals who willfully damage bank notes.”

Similar workshops were conducted in Mzuzu and Lilongwe with an aim of sharing knowledge with the country’s prosecutors on how best they can work towards ending illegal forex externalization and counterfeit currency
