Locomotive kills its worker

There was tragedy at Kanengo Railway station in Lilongwe Malawi when a locomotive hit to death one of it’s workers.

Kanengo deputy public relations officer Constable Salomy Zgambo said Vincent Akim met his fate when he was controlling a locomotive which was to hook with a trailer carrying bags of fertilisers.

“Akim was until his death the station master,” Zgambo said.

According to an eye witness, Akim was communicating with the driver of a locomotive through a wireless radio as this is how the system works.

“But it seems there was a communication failure citing that Vincent told the driver to stop but he couldn’t stop and in the process ended up hitting him,” the eye witness said

People tried to rescue him but it was too late as the locomotive crushed his waist and he died on the spot.

Vincent Akim, 26 years old hails from Mwandawaka village Traditional Authority Zulu in Mchinji district.
