Malawi Holds Agriculture Fair

President Peter Muthalika has asked farmers to join cooperatives in order to be harvesting surplus yields.

Mutharika was speaking during the launch of this year’s agriculture fair at Chichiri Trade Fair Grounds in Blantyre.

He said farmers’ access to good quality equipment will help them in value addition.

“My government will soon launch an agriculture corporative bank which will help farmers to access farming loans,” Mutharika disclosed

Earlier, president of Malawi confederation of chambers and industry MCCI Prince Kapondam’gaga has urged government to assist farmers with collateral packages that will help them to access bank and insurance services.

“Government should civic educate farmers on financial literacy through reserve bank of Malawi,” emphasised Kapondam’gaga

In his speech Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development Joseph Mwanamveka warned people holding their maize that they will not sell at a higher price.
