MCTU challenges unions on gender equality

Malawi Congress of Trade Union MCTU has challenged workers unions to champion gender equality issues in work places.

MCTU deputy secretary General Jessie Ching’oma has made the appeal during gender equality workshop in Blantyre.

Ching’oma said gender based violence is happening in the world of work which can be eradicated if unions incorporate gender equality issues in their activities.

“pay gap between men and women as well as sex for promotion as some of the gender based violence happening,” cited Ching’oma

He said unions as workers rights advocates must ensure that their colleagues understand gender equality issues through conducting sensitization campaigns.

Speaking after the function some of the participants hailed MCTU for organisation the function saying it has enlightened them on gender equality issues.

They promised to take the messages to their fellow workers cue in
