Malawi Electoral Commission has approved the candidature of all five aspirants who presented nomination papers to contest in 26th September by elections in Mtiya ward, Zomba city

They represent United Democtatic Front, Democratic progressive party, Malawi congress party, Umodzi party and UTM party

Meanwhile the commission registered 241 new voters of which 119 are male and 122 female from 20th to 26th August in Mtiya ward

According to chief elections officer Andrew Mpesi the number of new voters brings the total number of registered voters to 6459

Mpesi says the commission did not receive any complaints from representatives of political parties, independent candidates and observers relating to the status of voters’ register during the period of inspection in Mtiya ward
