Over 100 Malawians Stranded in South Africa

Ministry of foreign affairs and international cooperation has said is engaging International Organisation of Migration IOM to repatriate Malawians stranded in South Africa.

Speaking with Radio Islam spokesperson of the Ministry Rejoice Chaponda said 113 Malawians including 68 males, 30 females and 15 children are stranded in repatriation centres following xenophobic violence which broke out few weeks ago.

Shumba has asked Malawians to exercise patience because the discussions have just began

“The law permits repatriation of those willing to be brought back home,” said Shumba

Meanwhile, Shumba has advised all former Malawi diplomats to return foreign diplomatic number plates of vehicles.

“Diplomats who have been recalled from duty are expected to return all number plates and other amenities so that they do not enjoy diplomatic benefits,” Shumba said

Shumba however said she did not have an exact figure of the diplomats who are still using the foreign number plates.
