Women Arrested of Robbery

Police has arrested two women Janet Chipojola aged 27 and Mirriam Machemba 28 for stealing money and other items worth millions of kwacha from people especially fellow women in Limbe Township and surrounding areas.

For the past few months Limbe police station received a number of complaints whereby several women complained that their handbags containing money and other items got stolen in the process of buying second hand clothes and minibuses.

Public relations officer for Limbe police Patrick Mussa says investigations led to the arrest of the two at Nguludi in Chiradzulu.

They admitted to be behind several offences that have been taking place in Limbe Township and other surrounding areas.

Police officers have also managed to recover cash amounting yo 698 thousand kwacha, handbags, identity cards, ATM cards, car and house keys, driving licences, passports and other items.

Some few items have already been identified by the owners and the two suspects have been charged with theft.

“Meanwhile massive investigations have been instituted to arrest more suspects and recover more property as it is alleged that they are behind several cases that have been taking place in buses from Blantyre to Lilongwe and Mzuzu,” Mussa said

Police therefore wishes to advise the citizenry to visit Limbe police if they had their money or property stolen in this way but proper procedures will be followed.

In the same vein the law enforcers strongly warn those who indulge themselves in these criminal activities that they will be tracked down and taken to court so that the law takes its necessary course.

Janet Chipojola hails from Nyezerera village in Traditional Authority Kaduya in Phalombe district while Mirriam Machemba from Gomani village in the area of Traditional Authority Chikumbu in Mulanje district.
