Saudi Arabia suspends Ramadhan prayers in masjids

Saudi Arabia has suspended Tarawih prayers at the two holy majids in Macca and Madina in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus.

President of the General Presidency for Affairs of the Two Holy Masjids Abdul Rahman As-Sudais said Taraweh will be held without public attendance at the Grand Masjid [Masjid al-Haram] and Prophet’s Masjid [Masjid al-Nabawi).

As-Sudais said in a statement on Twitter that Tarawih will be performed mainly with staff.

“Itikaf — the Islamic practice of secluding oneself in the masjid to pray has been canceled at both masjids,”As-Sudais says

According to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus has spread to 185 countries where more than 2.4 million people have been infected, 647,000 recovered and over 170,000 deaths.

Saudi Arabia also announced that Ramadan prayers which include taraweh and eid will be observed at home.
