Finance Minister describes Bridgin Foundation query as nonsense

Minister of finance Sosten Gwengwe has disclosed that the government of Malawi did not sign any agreement with the Bridgin Foundation.

In his closing remarks at the 2023/2024 budget Consultation meeting for the fiscal in Lilongwe Gwengwe said there is no one that signed the controversial 6.8 billion dollars grant with Bridgin Foundation.

The minister described the discussion of regarding Bridgin Foundation as nosence

He has since asked Malawians to focus their attention on things that can help in improving the country’s economic status.

Meanwhile, Economics Association of Malawi (ECAMA) says government should address power blackouts, unavailability of foreign exchange, high cost of inputs and revisit investment projects.

In his speech ECAMA’s Executive Director Frank Chikuta said there is likelihood that the 2023/2024 Economic growth may be affected by the numerous challenges

He said adjustments of Budget should not compromise job creation and public service delivery.

Speaking on behalf of health civil society organizations, George Jobe called for increased funding in 2023-2024 budget.
