Malawi Police Officer impersonator frees prisoner

Security expert has advised Malawi Prison Service to revisit their security strategies after one prisoner escaped at Chichiri Prison in Blantyre.

One of the security experts in Malawi Sharif Kaisi cites the two incidents of prisoners found with phones in his stomach and the recent Chichiri prisoner escape as signs that there are security lapses in prisons of Malawi.

“More people might be connived and initiated these kinds of criminality hence the need for security agents to fully investigate,” Kaisi

Meanwhile, Malawi Police Service MPS has condemned the tendency of some people impersonating as police officers and committing crimes in Malawi.

Speaking to Radio Islam deputy national public relations officer for Malawi Police Service inspector Harry Namwaza said the tendency of using police uniforms by some people in committing crimes is a disgrace and worrisome issue

“We assure Malawians that those people will be hunted down and brought to justice once found,” Namwaza

Commenting on the security lapses in prisons of Malawi, Malawi Prison Service public relations officer Chimwemwe Shaba has assured Malawians that will continue ensuring security is tight in all prisons

Shaba says currently investigations are underway to establish how a prisoner at Chichiri prison escaped.
