Mangochi Town council orders vendors to relocate
Mangochi Town council has ordered vendors who have encroached road reserve in the district to move out as the construction of Mangochi-Liwonde road from Bakili Muluxi highway will commence soon.
Chairperson for the council Ibrahim Kachea made the order after the council received a letter from the construction company MotaEngil which complained of encroachment of some vendors around Mangochi Town.
He said there are some people who have allocated a container opposite national bank and a fence constructed opposite robots which have encroached road reserve.
Kachea further said “if the vendors insist to move they shall not be compensated once their properties are damaged as construction of the road will start soon.”
Few months ago communities in Ulongwe area protested against the delay in their compensation.
Their anger was shown when officials of National Roads Authority and MotaEngil held a meeting with the affected people after noting that they were not relocating from the road reserve.
During the meeting public relations officer for the Authority Portia Kajanga said the delay was due to procedures.
Kajanga assured the communities that they will be compensated as soon as possible.
