33 Million Dollars Nkhatabay Water Project Commissioned

The 33 million Dollars Nkhatabay town water supply system and sanitation facilities project supported by African Development Bank and OPEC has been commissioned
Speaking during the commissioning of the project board chairperson of Northern Region Water Board Chairperson Frank Mwenefumbo said the project will carter for 250, 000 people and has increased production capacity from 1.5 million litres per day to 20 million litres
Mwenefumbo said they have registered 6000 applications for water connections and more than 1500 households have already been connected
He mentioned ongoing and planned water projects in Karonga, Rumphi as well as Mzuzu that will increase supply of clean and safe water to people
In his speech country manager of African Development Bank Macmillan Anyau understands that following completion of water system reliability of water within Nkhatabay and neighbouring areas has improved significantly
Anyau said 105 000 people are accessing water 24 hours compared to less than 12 hours in the past
