ACB Director arrested, DPP suspended

Director of Public Prosecutions Dr Steve Kayuni has been suspended over the arrest of Anti-Corruption Bureau ACB director Martha Chizuma

Presenting a report in parliament on the arrest of Chizuma Minister of justice and constitutional affairs, Titus Mvalo said President Chakwera has instituted a commission of inquiry adding that all charges against ACB director have been dropped unconditionally.

Commenting on the report leader of opposition in parliament Kondwani Nankhumwa said Chakwera should appear in the national assembly to explain what happened to Chizuma

According to National police spokesperson Peter Kalaya “the ACB director was arrested following a complaint by director of public prosecutions that he was injured by allegations Chizuma made in a leaked audio clip in January.”

Meanwhile, National Anti-Corruption Alliance has described Chizuma’s arrest as a setback in the fight against corruption.

Mkandawire has urged president Chakwera to fulfill the pledge he made in July during the launch of ant corruption campaign
