Bwaila hospital’s labour ward, theatre closed

Leader of opposition in Parliament, Kondwani Nankhumwa has called on health authorities to quickly fix a sterilizing machine at Bwaila Hospital’s labour ward in order to save lives of pregnant women.

Nankhumwa made the call when he visited the health facility following reports that the hospital had closed a labour ward and a theatre due to a faulty sterilizing machine.

It was reported that pregnant women were being referred to Kamuzu Central hospital for medical attention.

Speaking to journalists after touring the hospital, Nankhumwa said it was pleased to see technicians working on the machine a development he said gives hope that the section will soon be fully operational.

Unlike earlier reports that the section had been closed, Nankhumwa observed that a few women were being assisted in the labour ward.

In her remarks, District Medical Officer for Lilongwe District Health Office Thokozani Liwewe, hailed the Leader of Opposition for the visit saying it will clear the misconceptions on the social media.
