CAMA requests government to include additional cost cutting measures

Consumers Association of Malawi CAMA has requested government to include additional measures in the cost cutting measures which president Chakwera announced recently

Executive director of CAMA John Kapito has made the request in a letter addressed to chief secretary to president and cabinet

Among other measures CAMA says president and his vice to drastically cut down travels as well as cost cutting measures for judiciary and parliament

Consumers Association of Malawi CAMA has demanded the reduction of number of cabinet ministers and presidential advisors to a maximum of 20 and 3 respectively, embassies to 10 and the staffing

“Vehicles that were brought for SADC conference should be sold and withdraw 4 by 4 vehicles. On the ban of Lakeshore meetings the consumers association proposes that all government workshops must be held in Lilongwe,” Kapito

Among other cost cutting measures Kapito has proposed establishment of parliamentary committee to scrutinise delegates for president and his vice as well as reduce presidential convoy and police line-up

Finally CAMA has suggested the removal of agricultural inputs program from budget, withdraw national economic empowerment fund and transfer to financial institutions, president to release public sector reforms report and review packages paid to civil servants

President Chakwera announced the measures a day after civil society organisations threatened to hold vigils and demonstrations if Chakwera does not act within 21 days on the challenges Malawians are facing

The civil society organisations said so few days after reserve bank of Malawi devalued kwacha as international monetary fund team was in the country to assess the possibility of resuming extended credit facility which was suspended by tonse alliance government over alleged misreporting of credit by DPP government officials
