CDEDI asks MRA to investigate Illovo Sugar Company on export pricing

Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) has asked Malawi Revenue Authority MRA to investigate Illovo Sugar Company on issues to do with export pricing

According to CDEDI, Illovo exports sugar to other countries at a price of 500 Dollars per tonne while the same sugar costs 1250 Dollars on local market

In an interview with radio Islam, CDEDI Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa says it is still not clear why Malawians pay more on sugar as compared to neighboring countries

CDEDI press briefing comes after Ministry of Trade and Industry had given Illovo Sugar Company to reduce sugar prices but to no avail

Appearing before parliamentary committee executive director of the company Lekani Katandula told government to allow other companies to be importing the sugar as challenged
