Channel covid funds to ultra poor-Nankhumwa tells Chakwera

Leader of the opposition in Parliament has asked government to channel some money in the 17 billion kwacha covid funds to cushion challenges ultra poor people are going through in light of the rising wave of Covid-19 infections

According to a press statement responding to Dr Chakwera’s national address, Kondwani Nankhumwa said President Dr Lazarus Chakwera should come up with other measures to cushion economic shocks Malawians are facing

Nankhumwa who is also Democratic Progressive Party Vice President for the south has appealed to President Chakwera to take a look at some of the measures which former President Peter Mutharika came up with.

He said economic impact of covid-19 is disastrous as many people have lost jobs, small and medium enterprises are beginning to fold hence the need to boost their economic vitality

Nankhumwa stated that this is the the time Malawi enterprise development fund NEEF has to open up and accord soft loans to more people

“Many other industries better be supported or the country risks perennial importers of everything upon demise of them which are instrumental in enhancing import substitution,” Nankhumwa

He urged the president not to forsake the spread of corona virus in prisons and those with minor offencves be pardoned
