Conflicts in Malawi’s main opposition party

Malawi congress Party MCP has called for a national executive committee meeting amid political tension in the party.

According to a memorandum to the committee signed by MCP president Dr Lazarus Chakwera the meeting will be held on Sunday January 28 at the party’s national headquarters.

“The agenda for the meeting will be circulated at the meeting,” reads the statement.

The meeting follows the announcement of Sidik Mia interest to contest as vice president at MCP convention.

Few weeks ago senior party officials led by vice president Richard Msowoya petitioned Chakwera against his behavior of violating MCP’s constitution.
