Friends of court recommend electoral law changes

Friends of court have recommended the constitutional court to change electoral laws

They are Malawi Law Society MLS and Women Lawyers Association.

Counsel of Women lawyers Association Bernadetta Malungo made the recommendation when she was concluding oral submissions.

However, the judges objected that recommendation saying it is the responsibility of parliament to make laws.

Earlier Counsel Alick Msowoya presented oral submissions of MLS

Meanwhile, Counsel Chikosa Silungwe is presenting oral submissions of first petitioner in elections case which is UTM party.

Counsel of Second petitioner Malawi Congress Party will take over from Silungwe Thursday afternoon and respondents were make there oral submission on Friday.

Oral submissions take place from December 19 to 20 2019

Five judges of the constitutional court are expected to make a ruling on presidential elections case early 2020.
