Government, Private Officials attempted to bribe Concourt judges

Ant Corruption Bureau ACB has said a public servant and an official from the private sector allegedly attempted to bribe the judges of the constitutional court Concourt who are preparing a judgment of presidential elections case.

Speaking at a press briefing to update the public on ACB’s actions on complaints the bureau received from chief justice Andrew Nyirenda Director General Reyneck Matemba said no politician or political party was mentioned in the complaint.

Matemba said ACB also received complaints from civil society organization and concerned Malawians.

“The Chief justice reported the complaint on 28 November and a formal one on 8 December.We need more time to investigating the matter,” says Matemba

He stressed that the bureau is carrying out criminal not political investigation hence appealing to the nation to stop looking at anything from a political perspective.

Matemba refused to disclose names of the suspects to avoid jeopardizing investigations.

At the beginning of the media briefing he apologized for the errors that were in the invitation letter issued to the media saying they were due to pressure as it was drafted Tuesday morning.
