Halaal department hands over butcher shelter to Ntcheu council

Halaal department in collaboration with Muslim Association of Malawi for the first time has constructed a 3.5 million kwacha butcher shelter in Ntcheu district as one way of ensuring that communities consume Halaal foods.

Speaking when handing over the shelter to Ntcheu district council, Halaal National coordinator Sheikh Abdul Majid Chibwe said the department has done the initiative following concerns from the Muslim community that the market has one selling point where halaal and haram meats are sold

Chibwe said the development will bring trust to Muslims, as they will now be buying Halaal meat at the market.

“The initiative will help to sell Halaal department services to the community in Ntcheu as they were not aware of them,” Sheikh Chibwe

In his remarks MAM’s regional chair Sheikh Ibrahim Machokwani said there is need to rollout the development to other districts which are experiencing same challenges of mixing halaal and haram meat at one selling point for them to have their own shelter.

Machokwani further said “for the area to be clean MAM’s chair has already donated 14 boreholes and one of it will be drilled within one week at the shelter.”

He has advised the butcher men to use the shelter wisely and observe personal hygiene as it is one of the principals of Halaal department.

Representing district commissioner Idrisi Gausi applauded Halaal department for helping government in ensuring that communities consume clean and quality food.

Gausi said the council has plans to construct additional butcher shelters at the market
