Health services suspended at Mlare health centre
Health service delivery at Mlare health centre in Karonga has been suspended because the only medical doctor is on a one month holiday.
The development has put lives of the surrounding community at risk as they are travelling over 20 kilometers to access health services at Nyungwe health centre or Karonga main hospital.
Confirming the development the area’s health advisory committee said the health centre was closed on 20th October this year.
Chairperson of Mlare health advisory committee Vyanangika Mkwala told radio Islam
that the community has been hunting for an explanation from the authority but to no avail.
“The community has requested Ministry of health and the president to immediately bail them out from the problem,” said Mkwala.
Karonga district health officer Phinias Mfune said was yet to verify.
The problem comes at a time when the community demands a maternity wing at the health centre.
Meanwhile, some organisations dealing in health issues have asked the district health officer to deploy another medical officer at the centre in order to save lives of the community.
