Increase in the number of illegal immigrants worries Malawi prison service

Authorities in the north have said are worried with the increase in the number of illegal immigrants.

According to Mzuzu prison spokesperson Austin Mwasangwale, it is worrisome to note that cases of illegal entry in the northern region are increasing almost every month.

Mwasangwale said this after police in Karonga arrested over one hundred illegal immigrants in the district. The prison’s spokesperson said the development results in overcrowding in Malawi’s prisons.

Mzuzu prison is one of the prisons experiencing this problem a development which has forced the authorities to transfer over sixty prisoners to other prisons in the country.
