Japan approves K58m grant for MW education

Japanese Government has approved a grant amounting to 58 million kwacha to Northern Education Division under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project.

In a signing ceremony in Lilongwe Japanese Ambassador to Malawi Shuichiro Nishioka said the grant is meant for implementation of the project for Twin Girls Hostel construction at Edingeni Community Day Secondary School in Mzimba district.

Nishioka said education is the foundation for individual development and national building as it empowers people.

“Despite several efforts to ensure that children especially girls remain in school several factors limit girls from continuing with their education such as inadequate school facilities, long distance they travel and early marriages,” he explained.

The ambassador then appealed to Northern Education Division to effectively expedite implementation of the project.

Speaking at the same function deputy minister of Education, Science and Technology Vincent Ghambi said the grant has come at the right time when Malawi government is promoting education for girls.

” I thank Japanese government for the grant because hostels will help girls stay in school and concentrate on their studies,” Ghambi said.
