Judge Tembo testifies against Thom Mpinganjira in Judges Bribery case

High court in Blantyre has started hearing the judges bribery case involving business man Dr Thom Mpinganjira

Judge Mike Tembo is the first witness to testify in court against Mpinganjira

Tembo said he knows Mpinganjira as they go to the same church but the evidence he gives is not personal

He said Mpinganjira was offering him 100 million kwacha to share with his colleagues who were hearing presidential elections case.

“Dr Thom Mpinhanjira contacted me four occasions from 9th to 31st October last year. On 9th October he asked for the number of Healey Potani saying he was doing a certain project,” Tembo explains

He mentioned lawyer Frank Mbeta and politician Brown Mpinganjira as some of the people who were used to bribe the judges.

Judge Tembo asked the court to play the recordings of their conversation with Mpinganjira but defence lawyer Patrice Nkhono objected.

However justice Tembo said the audio recorded on 31st October is very audible therefore Judge Dorothy DeGabriel ordered the audio clip be played in court

De Gabriel warned Nkhono against tactics to delay the case

Meanwhile, the presiding judge has adjourned the case to 12th November and granted bail to Mpinganjira
