K290bn Required In Malawi Disaster Recovery

Ministry of Disaster Management affairs has said 290 billion kwacha is needed to recover from disaster that occurred this year.

Principal Secretary and commissioner for disaster management affairs Wilson Moleni said after vice president Everton Chimulirenji launched the 2019 floods post disaster needs assessment PDNA report which is a quantification of damages and loses the disaster caused.

Moleni asked stakeholders to support the country to recover from the disaster.

In her remarks UN Resident Coordinator Maria Jose Torres said Malawi already has resources for the recovery but there is need to allocate the resources to affected places.

“UN is working closely with government on how they can mobilize additional resources for the recovery process,” said Torres

Torres then advised government and development partners to make sure the victims of disaster go back to normal life by providing water and strong infrastructure among others.

During the launch Chimulirenji presented the report to various stakeholders.
