Literacy Promotion Project Introduced in Malawi

Literacy levels of children in 13 districts of Malawi are expected to improve following implementation of literacy promotion project.

Briefing district executive committee in Mangochi programs manager Lloyce Mkuzi said through the project there will be establishment of viable literacy initiatives such as school feeding programs.

Mkuzi said in Mangochi the project targets 30 schools in 9 education zones and 9262 learners will benefit.

“669 primary schools in 77 Traditional Authorities in the country are expected to benefit,” she said

v also said the project will assist in building capacity on community structures and parents to change their mindset.

“The initiative will help in strengthening classroom literacy instruction, improve five core reading skills of learners and increase access to school supplies, teaching as well as learning materials,”explained Mkuzi

15, 875 dollars has been pumped in for the project.
