Malawi buys 30,000 metric tons of maize from neighbours

Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development has held the smooth procurement process of maize from other countries.

Speaking in an interview with radio Islam the Ministry’s spokesperson Halmiton Chimala said since the procurement started they have not experienced any problem.

“So far the Ministry has managed to pay all 30,000 metric tones of maize which is the total amount of the commodity that is supposed to be procured,” Said Chimala.

However, Chimala removed threats that some of the maize might be having diseases saying the ministry has put in place strong measures to ensure that all maize that is being imported is free from all possible maize diseases.

Chimala has assured the country that no person will die of hunger as ADMARC is also buying the commodity locally.
