Malawi president fires army commander

Malawi President professor Peter Mutharika has fired commander of Malawi Defence Force general Vincent Nundwe and his deputy general Clement Namangale.

According to a statement from office of president and cabinet OPC Nundwe has been replaced by major general Peter Namathanga who has been appointed to the rank of full general.

“Namangale has been replaced by major general Davis Mtachi who has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant general,” adds the statement

However, OPC says Nundwe and Namangale will be assigned other duties in the public service.

Mutharika has also appointed army commander of land forces, new air force commander but maintained maritime force commander.
