Malawi President’s State of National Address on Budget Interrupted
Malawi President’s state of national address on the 2018 to 2019 national budget was interrupted in the morning of Friday, 4 May, 2018.
The disruption occurred when Professor Peter Mutharika was speaking on the fight against corruption.
The commotion began as opposition MPs were asking DPP cadets to stop clapping hands because the legislators were failing to hear Mutharika’s speech.
This forced Mutharika to suspend the speech and the speaker of parliament intervened.
However, when the president resumed his speech the opposition MPs started booing him. Mutharika suspended his speech again forcing the security personnel to intervene.
Earlier in the morning DPP cadets barred Patricia Kaliati MP to enter parliament because they think she supports vice president Dr Saulos Chilima.
The DPP cadets also harassed journalists at Parliament building.
Meanwhile, the opposition and analysts have condemned the conduct of DPP cadets.
The parliament has been adjourned to Monday 7th May, 2018.
