Mangochi Muslim women reach out to Prisoners

Namwera AQSA Women group has donated assorted items worthy two Million kwacha to Mangochi Prison and Mangochi District hospital as part of Eid-Alfitir celebrations.

Speaking during the function, Senior Officer at Mangochi Prison Thomas Damba thanked the group for the items saying “this will help in feeding the inmates.”

“Despite government assistance to the prisoners they do have some challenges therefore it is very much interesting to see different organizations taking their role in assisting the inmates,” Damba said

On his part, Mangochi District Clinical Officer, Dr Chimwemwe Thambo, expressed his happiness upon receiving the food items saying as the hospital they were not expecting to receive such kind of gifts.

“Iam therefore urging the group to continue rendering their support to the hospital since a lot of patients come from far and it is very hard for them to feed themselves,” Dr Thambo said.

In her remarks the President of Namwera AQSA Women Group, Sakina Nanyumba said “as the group they thought of extending Eid- Alfitr celebration to their fellow friends at Mangochi prison and at the hospital as one way of cheering them up.”
