MCP candidate wins LL South by-elections

Malawi Electoral Commission MEC has declared Peter Dimba of Malawi Congress Party MCP as the winner of Lilongwe South constituency by-elections.

Announcing the results in Blantyre, MEC chairperson Dr Jane Ansah commended electorates in the area for upholding peace during the electoral process.

Dr Ansah however bemoaned low turn-out during the by-elections saying “only 15 thousand out of over 32 thousand registered voters casted their ballots.”

She also expressed concern with participation of political parties during the by-election as only 3 out of over 50 registered parties took part.

In his remarks, MCP campaign director Moses Kumkuyu hailed the electoral process saying “it truly reflects the will of the people.”

The by-election has been held in the area failing on 21st May and 5th November last year due to the death of a UTM candidate and political violence respectively.
