MCP, UTM against EU elections report releasing period

Malawi Congress party MCP and UTM party have faulted European Union EU timing of releasing 2019 elections report.

The two parties have said this in reaction to EU’s Elections Observer’s Mission plan to issue a statement upon arrival in the country today.

They have since engaged the EU EOM to consider rescheduling the release of the report.

MCP general secretary Eisenhower Mkaka in an interview with Radio Islam says “releasing the report now might influence the court’s ruling on the elections case hence will not honor the mission’s invitation.”

In a statement UTM president Saulosi Chilima asked EU EOM to respect the court and wait until the case is completed to release the report.

Democratic Progressive Party spokesperson Mark Botoman refused to comment on the matter.
