MEC Meets Religious & Traditional Leaders On Voter Registration

Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has underscored the importance of involving traditional leaders in mobilizing people to register in the 7th voter registration which begins on Monday next week.

MEC Commissioner for Media, Civic and Voter Education Commissioner Dr. Moffat Banda made the remarks during an interface meeting with religious and traditional leaders at Traditional Authority Kilupula’s headquarters in Karonga after two road shows at Kakoma and Pusi trading centres.

Dr Banda told the delegates that their active participation in all electoral processes is very crucial to have free, fair and credible 2019 tripartite elections.

He urged them to encourage their subjects to register in order to vote during next year’s polls.

“You have the power to convince people to register because their suspects respect them and use their advice,” Banda said.

The 6th voter registration exercise ended on Tuesday 2nd October in Nsanje, Mangochi and Zomba.

Malawians will vote for the president, Members of Parliament and ward Councillors on 21st May, 2019.
