MP urges UK to pressurize India to stop persecuting Muslims

Member of Parliament for Blackburn constituency has urged UK government to impose greater pressure on Indian government to stop prosecuting Muslims

Kate Hollern in a letter to UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson says many of her constituents have contacted her to express their horror at the escalation of violence and persecution of Muslims in India

Hollern has told Johnson that several thousand of her Blackburn constituents are of Muslim faith, originate from India and still have family members there

She says it is deeply disturbing to hear of more and more well evidenced reports of desecration of masjids, some groups calling for genocide of Muslims, human rights abuses and threats of mass violence against women

Hollern notes that Johnson visited Indian Prime Minister Modi last week with a view to building UK’s trade links with India hence hopes that he raised the concerns of her constituents and Muslims of Indian origin across UK with him
