Special cabinet committee on COVID-19 has announced that new cases of the pandemic have been registered in Chikwawa district and Blantyre.

Announcing at a press briefing in Lilongwe chairperson of the Committee Jhappie Mhango said the patient in Chikwawa travelled recently from South Africa while the two patients in Blantyre travelled from UK and a relative of the patient who was tested positive on 3rd April respectively.

Mhango said this brings the number of confirmed cases to 8

“One of the five patients as of 6th April 2020 who has other underlying disease died Tuesday morning,” says Mhango

He said environmental health team from Blantyre district health office has buried the body of the 51 year old woman who was of Indian origin

He further said the committee will suspend markets, religious gatherings and voter registration on Thursday.
