Nurses doubt govt reversal on re-recruitment

Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi NONM has described government’s reversal of the decision not to recruit 51 doctors, nurses and midwives who graduated recently as hearsay because there is no formal communication on the issue.

Speaking in an interview with radio Islam this morning, president of NONM Dorothy Ngoma said her organization is just hearing this issue through the media.

“I checked with Ministry of Health and found that there are no letters of recruitment,” said Ngoma

She said government has created the rumor because the issue is in court and doctors gave it 14 days to recruit their 51 colleagues who threatened to hold industrial action if it failed to do so.

She therefore asked all nurses in the country not to give up the fight until government bows down to their demand.
