Operation Smile extends cleft operations

Operation smile has revealed plans to conduct three times a year the operation campaign on patients with cleft problem.

Country director for the organization Ibrahim Nthalika in an interview with radio Islam said they want to operate all people with cleft.

However, he said this will depend on availability of resources.

“Initially the operation smile had been conducting the operation once a year and changed to twice in 2017. So far the organization has conducted operations on over 900 patients since it started in 2012,” said Ibrahim

He added that 410 Malawian nurses and doctors have been trained to conduct the operation.

Ibrahim has therefore advised people in the country not to discriminate against patients with cleft.

He also said there is need for Malawians to join hands in making sure that these people are assisted.
