Opposition leader in para. brushes president Chakwera’s speech

Leader of opposition in parliament Kondwani Nankhumwa has described President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera’s National Address as a threat to the freedom of conscience and political association.

Nankhumwa said the President’s address has rekindled in Malawians memories of the previous MCP regime.
During a national address, Dr Chakwera ordered the removal of top management of MANEB for failure to administer this year’s MSCE exams and the firing of Acting Chief Executive Officer CEO for National Oil Company of Malawi NOCMA, for her perceived affiliation to the Democratic Progressive Party DPP.

Nankhumwa says Chakwera’s orders, are a clear violation of the rule of law and good governance.
Meanwhile, Political analysts have asked president Dr. Chakwera to follow proper procedures when firing civil servants.

Whilst commending the president for the strong speech, Sherif Kaisi, has faulted him for directly giving orders to fire boards of directors and MANEB officials for the examination leakage.

“The president as government’s CEO should give commands which are in accordance with the constitution, and not giving ultimatums”, Kaisi said.

Kaisi also said it was expected of the president to give directive  to Malawians  on  what should be done.
