Police tips money agents on security
Police in Chitipa have engaged Airtel Money and TNM Mpamba agents on security and safety of their money.
This comes against a background of increased cases of theft of money through agents by tricksters in the district.
Speaking at Chitipa police station officer senior superintendent Goodwin Chigalu Sambo emphasized the importance of good and robust working relationship to deal with tricksters.
Sambo advised the agents to always be alert and adhere to security tips.
“Tricksters use to various ways to steal such as fake messages, phone calls and children. Police assures the money agents that it is always there for them and appealed to them to always work together to protect life and property,” said Sambo
The Chitipa police station officer advised them to avoid exposing and moving with their big cash as that attracts thieves.
The agents were also asked to always work in secured environment to prevent accidents as most of them ply their businesses along the road at trading centre.
Airtel money and TNM Mpamba representatives Humphreys Siyasiya and Masewo Mhango tipped the agents the techniques employed by conmen to steal from them.
Siyasiya and Mhango advised them to have kiosks that are well secured to safeguard their money, phones and lives.
“You should avoid giving or sending cash to customers before receiving or verifying message from them,” they warned
The Airtel money and TNM Mpamba representatives urged the agents to form committees that will be looking into their affairs.
On their part the agents thanked police for organizing the meeting saying it will help them improve and serve as an eye opener.
They have promised to work with police and report suspicious faces.
