Radio Islam Listeners & UN hold discussions
Radio Islam listeners association has commended UN Women for its campaign of promoting women participation in politics in Mangochi district.
Vice president for the association Davie Daud Mpalume expressed his gratitude during an interface meeting with UN Women on women political participation.
Mpalume said women are a key aspect of development as they are passionate, helps the poor and easy to approach than men.
“I plead with UN Women to support women in order to achieve gender equality in Malawi,” Kumpalume said
One of the women aspirants Seviya Chitawo who attended the meeting said it was very important as she has been motivated to contest as a councilor in Chigawe ward.
In her speech Mayimuna Mwanyali vice chair for Mangochi town council said 50:50 campaign will be viable if there is collective effort.
“UN Women should provide the women more resources and in time to compete well with men,” Mwanyali said
Faith Mvula communications officer for UN Women said the meeting was organised under the electoral cycle project which seeks to promote the profile of women, increase their participation in politics and reduce gender based violence.
