Two siblings drown and die

Two students from same family have died after drowning in Mfulanjovu River in Balaka district.

Balaka police said the two met their fate when they were trying to cross over flooded Mfulanjovu stream when they were coming from School.

According to Balaka Police publicist Sergeant Joseph Sauka the deceased Chifundo Ajusa 17 was a form 3 student at Kankao Community Day Secondary School while his brother Kelvin Ajusa was in Standard 5 at Mfulanjovu School.

Sauka said upon arrival at the river they found that the stream they were supposed to cross had over flooded and the two did not want to wait.

They then held each other arms and started crossing the stream but unfortunately they were washed away by the running water and the body of Kelvin was found the very same day while that of Chifundo yesterday.

Both Chifundo and Kelvin Ajusa came from Mombo village, Traditional Authority Chanthunya in Balaka distrist.

According to the data which Balaka Police has, this is the third incident of drowning in Balaka District since the inception of rainy season two weeks ago after a 21 year old man Mdala Nicks was washed away on December 25 after he attempted to cross the flooding river while he was drunk and another incident where a 2 year old child had drowned in a shallow well at his home.
