UTM announces to form alliance with MCP.

UTM party has announced that has resolved to form an electoral alliance with Malawi Congress Party MCP for the purposes of contesting in the May 2020 presidential elections.

According to press statement signed by UTM spokesperson Dr Joseph Chidanti Malunga and Secretary General Patricia Kaliati, the party’s president and state vice president RT hon Dr Saulos Chilima has been mandated to conclude final details of the Alliance agreement .

“It is further hereby announced that the signing ceremony of the alliance agreement shall take place at Bingu International Conference Centre on 19th March 2020 at 10:00 hoursa,” reads the statement.

The announcement takes place after MCP gave power to its president Dr Lazarus Chakwera to discuss with Chilima on forming the alliance.

DPP and UDF formed an alliance after parliament passed the 50 plus 1 electoral system of electing president as recommended by constitutional court on 3 February 2020 when it nullified presidential elections which were held on May 21 2019.

The court cited irregularities in the management of the elections by Malawi Electoral Commission.

Chilima and Chakwera appealed for the nullification of the presidential elections results.
