WHO, CDC support Malawi coronavirus testing

World Health Organization WHO country representative has said the organization is supporting experts who are testing corona virus in laboratories in Malawi.

Rose Dlamini has said this during a press conference jointly held with Minister of health, chairperson parliamentary committee on health and US Centre for disease control CDC country director.

Dlamin said Malawians should take the pandemic seriously by adhering to preventive measures.

“WHO will continue supporting Ministry of health in COVID-19 response by training health workers among others,” she said

In his remarks CDC country director Andrew Auld said US has been making sure that the test kits that are being used to test people in Malawi are of good quality so that the results they give should be genuine.

On his part chairperson of parliamentary committee on health Mathews Ngwale said it is true that the 33 people were tested positive to corona virus.

Ngwale said members of the committee toured the laboratories where they confirmed the results.

“I advise people who are spreading rumours that there are no coronavirus cases to stop,” Ngwale stressed

He said the tests are being done by experts hence encouraging Malawians who are willing to go to the lab and confirm the tests.

Speaking at the same function Minister of health Jappie Mhango said government has developed measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in workplaces.

Mhango said some of the guidelines are employers allowing employees to work from home, reduce working hours and provide financial assistance to those who encounter financial challenges.
