WHO declares Malawi eliminates lymphatic Filariasis

World health organization WHO has declared that Malawi has eliminated Lymphatic Filariasis as a health problem.

In a document addressed to Minister of health WHO director general Dr Tedros Adhanom says external panel of experts reviewed the report on the elimination of the disease in the country.

Adhanom said Malawi has met the established criteria for the elimination based on the evidence provided and recommendation of the experts.

“I congratulate Malawi on achieving this momentus achievement,” says Adhanom

WHO recommends that quality care remains available for affected patients throughout the country.

It says surveillance activities are still required to monitor for the potential resurgence of the infection.
