Youths in the country have been advised to continue pressing authorities to urgently formulate policies aimed at mitigating effects of climate change.

The call was made when the National youth Network on Climate Change (NYNCC) hosted a public debate on policy and action on climate justice and disaster risk management in Blantyre.

Speaking after the debate, NYNCC National Coordinator, Dominic Nyasulu, said they decided to organize the session to create a platform for decision makers to engage with the youth on how best can protect and preserve the environment.

Nyasulu said time has come when the youths can stand up and influence the policy and climate action ambitious to address the effects of climate change.

Among the panelists in the debate were traditional leaders, senior government official, youth representative and the cadamia.

But speaking after the debate, the Director of Department of Climate Change and Metrological Services Lucy Mtilatila, said it was pleasing to note that the youths are showing interest in participating in climate change and disaster risk management.

Mtilatila however was also quick to disclose that her department is planning of procuring a high resolution weather forecast equipment to closely monitor weather phenomenon in the country.
