Zambian President in Malawi

Presidents of Malawi Dr Lazarus Chakwera and Zambia Hakainde Hichilema have agreed to remove bottlenecks to cross border trading

Chakwera and Hichilema made the agreement during their meeting at Kamuzu Palace when the Zambian president visited Malawi for a one day state visit

During a press briefing after the discussions Chakwera said they agreed to harmonise and simplify border controls by jointly constructing one stop border post at Mchinji Mwami border which they will commission early next year.

“We have committed to hold regular security and defense meetings,” Chakwera

He congratulated him for winning elections and commended people of Zambia for holding peaceful elections

On SADC Chakwera told Hichilema that countries should register good political governance, peace and security in order to achieve economic growth

In his speech Hichilema encouraged business to business in order to develop Malawi and Zambia

He said unity between the two countries will help to deal with challenges they face

The Zambian president promoted investment and taking risks so that they explore opportunities that exist between the two countries

“Malawi and Zambia should advance democracy to achieve socio-economic development,” Hichilema

He was elected the 7th president of Zambia in August after defeating former leader Edgar Lungu

Hichilema had lost five previous elections but won the 2021 presidential election with over 59% of the vote.
